On the record: The Killers

Artist : The Killers
Album : Hot Fuss (Universal Music)

Only formed in 2002, The Killers have already made waves for selling out headlining shows in England -- making them the first Brit band coming out of Las Vegas.

Amid the "The" bands who are rooted in raw, gritty rock 'n roll, The Killers find inspiration in glam and New Wave.

The result is a breath of fresh air, while at the same time still keeping originality and an earnest quality.

The album kicks off with Jenny was a Friend of Mine, with a distinctive bassline that would not be out of place on a Duran Duran record.

Somebody Told Me brims with synthesizer and quirky lines, like You had a boyfriend who looked like a girlfriend that I had in February of last year.

At times they sound like early U2, or recall classic Bowie, including on Andy, You're a Star

Other standout tracks are All The Things That I've Done and On Top.

With the engaging bassline, strong vocals and neat arrangement, there seems a killer future ahead for the band.
