On the record: Mettalica

Artist : Metallica

Album : Some Kind of Monster/EP (Universal Music)

Metallica still rocks after all these years, with this EP the potent proof.

Some Kind of Monster is an accompaniment to the documentary film of the same title released in July. Receiving rave reviews from critic, the film looks at the present condition of the aging rockers, who underwent therapy to salvage their tattered relationship.

This EP, meanwhile, comprises no new songs; the title track is taken from their latest album St. Anger, which was released early this year.

Other songs are The Four Horsemen, Motorbreath and Hit the Lights (from 1983's Kill 'Em All), Damage, Inc. and Leper Messiah (from 1986's Master of Puppets), as well as Ride the Lightning. All of the songs were recorded live during a concert in Paris.

No new material indeed, but this EP is a great reminder of one hell of the great metal force that was and is Metallica.

Be they aging family men or a recovering alcoholic, their inexhaustible energy bursts through on every song, even without their bass player.

They are unbeatable, enduring and endearing monsters, and this EP is a must for fans. -- Hera Diani
