I was truly amazed by the letter of Mr Ross Gulliver in your
issue of July 17, 1995. I moved to Indonesia in 1974, have been
married to an Indonesian for 18 years and cannot recall any
occasion when, as mixed couple, my husband and I have been
"bombarded with insults."
Have we during these years been blind and deaf? Furthermore,
as a bule (as Indonesians refer to Westerners) I have walked
around Jakarta for the last 21 years without ever "attracting
abusive racial comments"; on the contrary I have found
Indonesians to be extremely pleasant. So, what's your problem, Mr
Gulliver?
