On public telephones

With reference to the letter from Ms. Sinta Wijayanti (The Jakarta Post, Sept. 18, 2000: Public telephone).

It is correct that most of the unusable public telephones in the Bogor area have been rendered so because of vandalism, especially that associated with robbery. However, the Bogor management of the District Telephone Office is determined to continue to operate public telephones at suitable locations.

Not wanting to reduce the number of public telephones, we always try to improve and develop new types of services i.e. card operated public telephones (red - white in color) that can be accessed without coins (using one's personal identification number).

I thank you for your suggestions and kind attention.

HUSNI THAMRIN

Head of the District Telephone Office
