On Jakarta's past

I am writing with regard to your series of articles in the "Save Old Batavia" column. I gather the Sept. 1, 2001 article is to be the last. I have enjoyed reading your articles and am sure they have contributed to an improved awareness of the city's past.

I do hope The Jakarta Post will reconsider, so that you can carry on mining information from the Dutch and English source books and records, not to mention the memories of Jakarta's citizens, who have witnessed so much change, especially in the last fifteen years.

When the economic cycle turns upwards it is to be hoped that the next phase of development takes more account of the city's architectural heritage.
