On IMF

The idea of an International Monetary Fund mission arriving this week is good news for some but does not change Argentina's situation. The mission members are a group of men and women who are forced by a work routine among the world's leading financial bureaucrats to travel the globe and tell the poor, the corrupt and the mismanaged how to behave if we want any cash to come our way. The government of Argentina today, and its predecessors ranging back over months and years, have sold us the idea that we must look as if we are behaving (if) they are going to sign a big fat check. That approach worked very well (in the past) but Argentina is not going to get well again -- if it ever was -- with anything other than hard work and dedication to the cause of national recovery.
