On death penalty

In response to the letter Forgive convicted Australians (The Jakarta Post, Oct. 20) from a New Zealander, I would like to see the death penalty for drug pushers in Australia.

It is well known that drug crimes in Asia bring the death penalty, so there is no excuse. RON KENDLE, Perth, Australia

Good deeds during Ramadhan

It is amazing to see another hard-line Muslim group targeting shops and restaurants in Ramadhan.

As I understand it, they are supposed to be fasting, and while they are fasting they are supposed to be doing good deeds.

Anyway, Indonesia -- as it promotes democracy and works to abolish corruption -- has failed in allowing these people to act as they have. I think the President should punish the perpetrators of such crimes. JUB LENG Los Angeles, U.S.
