On China-Taiwan

"...Beijing has now lowered the threshold for a military deployment. Until now violence was only threatened should Taiwan declare independence; now a military attack is threatened if Taipei doesn't enter negotiations over reunification.

With three weeks before the vote in Taiwan, China is trying to influence the mood there with the new warning.

After the vote, the question of reunification, which Taiwan has always with good reason avoided, will no longer be possible to put off. The message: After Hong Kong and Maco, this island republic should also "return to the fatherland.
