Olympic Day Run starts June 24

JAKARTA (JP): National athletes, as well as the general public, are invited to take part in the Jakarta Anniversary Olympic Day Run, to be held here on June 24. The event offers prize money ranging from Rp 50,000 (US$4.5) to Rp 1.5 million.

The run is jointly organized by the National Sports Council and the Jakarta authority in conjunction with the city's 474th anniversary on June 23. Every participant will receive a certificate from the International Olympic Committee.

Participants are divided into three groups: national athletes and members of the public are set to run a 10-kilometer route, while students are to take on the 5-km route.

Registration is available at the office of the Indonesian Amateur Athletics Association (PASI) at Madya stadium in Senayan complex (for national athletes and the general public), the sports department of the Jakarta chapter of the Ministry of National Education (for students) and sports and youth agencies in each of Jakarta's five mayoralties.

The head of the organizing committee, Harsuki, said that middle- and long-distance runners currently training for the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games will join the event. (ivy)
