Old woman burns herself

JAKARTA (JP): A sixty-year-old woman committed suicide Saturday by setting herself ablaze.

An officer at the Central Jakarta Police precinct said yesterday the police assumed that Rukiyah had immolated herself at her house on Jl. Kramat Sawah, Central Jakarta, because she was under stress.

"Residents rushed her to the Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital but she died on the way," the officer said.

He said the grandmother of eight children often tried to commit suicide but had always failed.

According to a relative, Rukiyah suffered stress following her husband's death ten years ago. (jun)
