Old boat found in S. Sumatra

TANJUNG ENIM, South Sumatra: An 11-meter-long boat believed to be more than 80 years old has been found by workers digging up the banks of a nearby river to construct a bridge.

The boat was discovered by one of the construction workers, Siwang, 58, in near perfect condition buried under 10 meters of earth.

"We found the unique traditional boat and believe that it is well over 80 years old," he said as quoted by Antara.

The wooden boat's construction is unique because no extensions or nails were used. (mds)
