'Ojek' help anti-polio drive

JAKARTA (JP): Several ojek (motorcycle taxi) drivers in Bogor played an important role in an anti-polio drive on Tuesday by distributing vaccines to remote health posts.

"They helped us transport the vaccine from the health agency to areas which cannot be reached by four-wheeled vehicles," the head of the Bogor Health Agency, Aisjah Wangranie, was quoted by Antara as saying yesterday.

The campaign was part of the second round of this year's national anti-polio drive.

Aisjah said the agency used the Indonesian Amateur Radio Organization to publicize the campaign and collect information on the number of infants to be vaccinated.

In Bogor, 7,729 infants were vaccinated at 945 health posts, involving up to 3,500 attendants and health officials. (sur)
