Ojek drivers hired to guard UI campus

BOGOR: Some 300 ojek (motorcycle taxi) drivers operating in the University of Indonesia (UI) campus in Depok are involved in securing the campus, following the murder of a student, Daliau Aga Gunawan on Tuesday.

Head of UI's campus environment affairs Donny Dhaneswara said that the ojek drivers would help as many as 143 security officers to guard the 320-hectare campus, 80 hectares of open land and six small lakes.

"Our security officers cannot cover the whole campus area. We hope that ojek drivers will inform us if there are suspicious activities going at the school," Donny said.

Daliau, a student in the computer science department, was found dead in a wooded area on the campus on Tuesday. According to the police, he was robbed before being murdered. -- JP
