'Ojek' driver killed near cemetery

JAKARTA: Just 22 days after starting work as a motorcycle
taxi, or ojek, driver in South Jakarta, Mulyadi Milad, 30, was
murdered, execution style, for the motorcycle he was renting to
provide an income for his wife and two children.

Mulyadi's body was discovered near a cemetery on Jl. Sawah
Lama, Pondok Sawah Indah in Ciputat, early Saturday. He had been
shot in the back of the head at close range.

Ciputat Police deputy chief First. Insp. Jamaludin suspected
robbery was the motive as the motorcycle had not been found. "The
robber must have pretended to be a passenger."

The victim's older brother, Sukatno, said Mulyadi, from Serua
Indah, Kedaung, also in Ciputat, had rented the motorcycle from
his neighbor for Rp 17,000 (US$2) a day. --JP.

Flood gates tell no worries

JAKARTA: Heavy rains that hit Bogor, Puncak and Depok in the
last two days were not enough to trigger flood fears in Jakarta
on Saturday.

Imih, who staffs the Depok flood gate, said water levels were
still normal. "We will be in an alert situation if the
measurement showed an increase of 200 cm," he said.

The Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (BMG) have predicted the
rainy season to peak between January and February.
