Officials violate parking regulations

JAKARTA (JP): Fifteen cars belonging to city officials were towed from the roadside on Jl. Kebon Sirih in front of the City Hall to a parking lot in the National Monument compound due to being parked illegally.

Head of the city's Center for Public Order Regulation Raya Siahaan said the vehicles' removal, which was jointly conducted with the city traffic and land transportation agency (DLLAJ), was part of a citywide drive to uphold public order and security.

Siahaan said the campaign was started with city officials to serve as an example to the people.

"Before imposing the law in the public, we have to discipline ourselves first," he told reporters.

He said the cars included those owned by Purwanto of the DLLAJ, Sutarno of the city social affairs agency, Sigit Gunawan of the Central Jakarta mayoralty office, Parlindungan Pakpahan of the city parks agency, Ali Drajat of the city social development office, Asep of the city fire department, and Sutiyanto of the South Jakarta education bureau.

Field coordinator for the drive Rahmat Musa of the DLLAJ said the car owners were asked to sign a statement saying they would never again violate parking regulations. (04)
