Officials told to avoid unnecessary trips

JAYAPURA, Papua: Papua Governor Jaap Solossa asked on Wednesday local officials not to take unnecessary trips outside the province.

The governor said he had received reports of high-ranking officials in the province who had traveled to Jakarta for no apparent official reason.

"The people in Papua need their attention and service, so they must stay (in the province)," he said, adding that the trips were a waste of public funds.

The governor said the officials, including mayors and regents, had to set a good example for their subordinates and the public.

Solossa vowed to tighten the procedures for the issuance of travel orders for public officials. -- Antara.
