Officials told not to accept gifts

YOGYAKARTA: In an effort to discourage graft, Yogyakarta Mayor Herry Zudianto officially banned his subordinates on Tuesday from accepting Idul Fitri gifts.

Besides discouraging graft, the ban is also aimed at increasing solidarity among Yogyakarta municipal administration personnel.

"While people struggle with the fuel price hike, government officials just go on accepting gifts. It's unfair," said Zudianto.

The mayor said notices of the ban had been circulated throughout offices of the Yogyakarta municipal administration. Jakarta Governor Sutiyoso earlier issued a similar ban. -- JP
