Officials queried over eviction
JAKARTA: The police on Wednesday questioned an official at the East Jakarta Public Order Office, Yusmin Simanjuntak, over a violent eviction last week in which a student from Indonesian Christian University (UKI) was injured, and who remains in a coma.
"The questioning is to get a clarification," Kramat Jati police chief Deddy Tetra was quoted as saying by Tempointeraktif.
The eviction of street vendors in front the UKI campus in Cawang, East Jakarta, on May 17, ended in a clash between students and public order officers.
A student, Victor Djami, suffered head injuries and is now being treated at UKI Hospital.
At least 13 public order officers also suffered minor injuries in the incident.
Besides Yusmin, the police had also questioned six public order officers, a police medical officer, a resident, two street vendors and three UKI security guards as witnesses in the case. -- JP
