Officials meet on traffic order areas

Officers from related institutions will meet today at city police headquarters to discuss the strict enforcement of traffic regulations in selected areas of the city.

Head of the City Police Traffic Investigation Unit Lt. Col. Herman S. Sumawiredja told The Jakarta Post yesterday participants of the meeting will include the Municipal Traffic Police Directorate, Public Works Office, Traffic and Land Transportation Control (DLLAJ) Office and the Judicial and Court offices.

He said the one-day meeting is expected to help solve the current problems facing officers carrying out their duties in the selected areas.

"For example, we hope DLLAJ will install the required traffic signs and the Public Works Office will further improve the quality of the roads," he said. "Then we have the legal right to ticket a pedestrian who refuses to use the available zebra crossing."(bsr)
