Officials' houses neglected

LIWA, West Lampung: Dozens of houses built for officials of
the West Lampung administration are in various stages of
disrepair due to neglect, Antara reported.

The houses, which absorbed Rp 2.4 billion (US$911,854) from
the administration's budget, include several which can be
categorized as "luxurious".

Regent HS Umpusinga said, however, that efforts have been made
to put the houses to good use.

Regency spokesman Gunawan Rasyid that the houses were
neglected because many of the officials already own houses and
chose not to reside in the official residences. (swe)
