Officer mobbed over robbery

JAKARTA (JP): Residents of Kukusan subdistrict, Beji, Depok,
mobbed an officer from the police Mobile Brigade Unit (Brimob) to
death on Thursday night for attempting to steal a motorcycle.

City police chief of internal affairs Lt. Col. Mustofa
identified the suspect as Second Cpl. Asep Syafuddin, who is in
his late 20s.

"He tried stealing the motorcycle belonging to a man
identified as Mat Syamsuddin on Jl. M Alib II No. 6 at about 8:30
p.m. on Thursday. Mat immediately started screaming for help,"
Mustofa said.

"Residents came and beat the suspect very badly. Police
arrived to bring the suspect to a nearby hospital. He died on the
way. His corpse was sent to his corps in Bogor." (ylt)
