Officer arrested for illegal weapons

JAKARTA (JP): South Jakarta Police officers arrested an Indonesian Navy officer on Monday for illegal possession of firearms during a routine nighttime Kilat Jaya operation.

South Jakarta Police chief Lt. Col. Edward Aritonang identified the suspect as Indonesian Navy Chief. Sgt. Nahtian Siagian.

"We caught him on Monday night dancing away in a dangdut music disco in Blok M, South Jakarta," Edward said on Tuesday.

He said Siagian was in possession of, among other things, an FN gun with 11 bullets, a homemade pistol and a pen gun with five bullets.

"I can't give you more details since Siagian is still being interrogated. The weapons he had on him had no permit." (ylt)
