Offended teacher beats student

KENDARI, Southeast Sulawesi: Class activities abruptly turned chaotic when Sarawiah Kalsum, an Indonesian language teacher at Junior High School 6 beat her student, Suriana, on Thursday for criticizing the poor performance of some teachers in the school.

The incident began when Suriana, one of the candidates to chair the school's Student Association began to convey his vision and mission on how to help the teachers improve their performance.

"The quality of this school is far behind that of others due to the poor performance of some of our teachers, so it is the duty of the Student Association to think it over and help the school solve it." he said.

Sarawiah, apparently offended by the criticism, suddenly lost her temper and hit him repeatedly, causing him to faint.

Suriana was rushed to the hospital, while the teacher was detained by the police for further investigation. --Antara
