Objective issue on Chinese
After a deluge of articles from the Chinese community, complaining about their fate, and the rather polite, Indonesian- style reactions from the government and from local media acknowledging this, it was interesting to read Donna K. Woodward's letter on July 23.
Her razor sharp analysis about the former relations between ethnic Chinese and indigenous Indonesians, after an interview of Sofyan Wanandi on July 17, is worth contemplating.
Today, only expatriates like Donna Woodward in Indonesia are able to give an objective account of this emotional issue without receiving the wrath of the Chinese community, who are feeling victimized. Feeling victimized means blaming others for their fate, always feeling right and never admitting mistakes.
