Nusakambangan to host offroad event

SEMARANG (JP): Central Java-based offroaders grouped in the Nusakambangan Jeep Club (NJC) will organize the Nusakambangan Wisata Offroad 2000 on Nusakambangan island for national participants, an official said on Saturday.

The event, from Sept. 22 to Sept. 25, on the island known for its maximum security prisons is the first event to be organized there.

"This is an opportunity for offroaders to try their skills and conquer Nusakambangan's natural features," organizing committee chairman Johanes told reporters.

"Participants can register in individual or team events, with each team consisting of three cars," he added.

Johanes also said the event provided a challenging route, from Karang Tengah beach on the eastern tip to Rancababakan beach on the western tip of the island.

"The route has it all: Hills, valleys, rivers, mud and beaches, with its own characteristics. It will be a tough route," he said.

"Participants must rely on their driving skills and correct calculation in making their decisions. We expect good offroaders will emerge from the event, which has such difficulties," he said.
