Nuriana's accountability report under fire

BANDUNG: West Java's Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan) faction chairman Rudy Harsa Tanaya said that West Java Governor Nuriana's accountability report submitted to the Legislative Council revealed many setbacks in West Java during 2001.

Citing an increase in unemployment and the weakening purchasing power of the people in West Java, Rudi said that his faction had set up a special team to study the report's contents.

"We're not going to just sit there and do nothing because there are a lot of setbacks amid reports of insignificant progress; The governor has launched various programs such as alleviating poverty and assisting small and middle scale businessmen, hasn't he?"

Rudi said the council had earlier approved additional money for the province's development but the governor, however, reasoned that he was not able to achieve targets due to a lack of funds.

Yomanius Untung, the Golkar Party's spokesman in the province, said that Nuriana, also from Golkar Party, should be objectively judged and given another chance. --JP
