Nuriana grilled for corruption

BANDUNG: West Java Governor R. Nuriana was again grilled for more than eight hours on Wednesday for his alleged roles in corruption, collusion and nepotistic practices involving a total of more than Rp 38 billion in state funds after his first round of questioning by the provincial Prosecutors' Office last Friday.

Dudu Hendra, the Prosecutors' Office spokesman, said to reporters that Nuriana answered all 80 questions submitted by interrogators.

"We have yet to conclude anything, as we are to cross check his statements with those from witnesses," said Dudu.

The head of the legal information unit of the Prosecutors' Office, Karmana, said on Monday that, judging from Friday's questioning, there were indications to suggest that Nuriana was involved in the grafts.

The governor may be involved in several embezzlement cases, including street illumination taxes, the purchase of tents for official ceremonies, the exchange of the province's assets and the building of the Al-Ihsan Foundation hospital.

As many as eight former West Java administration officials, including former deputy governor Ukman Sutaryan, have been named suspects in the alleged corruption cases. (25/sur)
