NU youths said playing politics
SEMARANG: Moslem youth organization Ansor, which is affiliated to the 30-million member Nahdlatul Ulama, was warned against playing politics and to not lose sight of its social mission.
NU chief Abdurrahman Wahid said here Sunday night that he was worried about several Ansor activists in Jakarta who have set their own political targets.
Some Ansor members have the ambition to become members of the House of Representatives, he said when meeting with Ansor activists.
"If this trend continues, Ansor will be venturing into the jungle of politics and jeopardize its commitment to sociocultural missions," he said.
NU, which focuses on social and educational missions, shuns politics. (har/pan)
