NTB's Mt. Rinjani named world legacy

JAKARTA: Mount Rinjani National Park on the West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) island of Lombok has won the destination stewardship category of the 2004 World Legacy Awards for its well-maintained natural and cultural heritage.

The national park's head rangers received the award in a ceremony held at the National Geographic Society in Washington DC recently, Conservation International Indonesia said in a press release on Wednesday.

Mount Rinjani was hailed during the award presentation ceremony for its beautiful highlands, waterfalls and panoramic sea view.

Other winners of the award this year were the Anangu people for preservation of their cultural heritage (Australia), the Casuarina Beach Club (Barbados) and the Al Maha Desert Resort (United Arab Emirates). -- Antara
