Novell to release new products for Windows 95

JAKARTA (JP): Following the release of computer operating system Windows 95, Novell Inc. announced here yesterday that it would soon launch a number of new products designed to work with the system.

Michael Dowd, Novell's regional product marketing manager, said yesterday that the new products include PerfectOffice for Windows 95, NetWare Client 32 for Windows 95 and LAN WorkPlace 5.1.

Dowd confirmed the compatibility of Novell's applications with Windows 95, saying that his company's application division was in close contact with Microsoft Corp., the producer of Windows 95, throughout the system testing circle.

Microsoft released its much-promoted and much-awaited Windows 95 in Seattle last week and, as reported by Reuter, the product instantly made its debut worldwide.

Although Microsoft is Novell's rival, Dowd said Windows 95 is not a direct competitor as Novell does not develop a desktop operating system for personal computers.

"We love Windows 95 because it will present Novell with exciting growth opportunities across our entire products," Dowd said, adding that consumers migration from Windows 3.1 to Windows 95 will be advantageous for Novell also.

Dowd said Novell has produced an update disk for customers who want to move from Windows 3.1 to Windows 95. The update works for the GroupWise client as well as stand-alone versions of WordPerfect 6.1 for Windows and Presentations 3.0 for Windows.

He added that his company would provide a free license upgrade to Perfect Office Win 95 for customers who purchased the new product from between Aug. 24 until the release of the product.

At yesterday's presentation, Novell also launched new releases of its word processors, WordPerfect 6.1 for DOS and WordPerfect 3.5 for Macintosh.

Novell claims that it is the world's leading network company, the top vendor in network operating systems and in networking software for personal computers as well as the second largest in personal computer application software. (rid)
