Nothing noble about turncoats

From Merdeka

Student demonstrations demanding reform in all fields led former president Soeharto to step down.

We now hear frequent insults and mocking criticism. It would be understandable if it came from the people known to be vocal in their criticism against the government of the Soeharto era.

I am saddened by the irony of the situation, that the civil servants and other people who were known to always support, idolize even excessively flatter the powerholders, in return receiving facilities, have turned and joined in the chorus of insults.

I am convinced these people lack noble qualities. There is treachery toward themselves and toward their leader. They are cowardly, shifty and easily frightened.

As an Indonesian citizen, I wish that the era of reform will welcome leaders of noble character who will reign far from the pseudo-loyal servants.
