North Sumatra wins rowing gold

MEDAN, North Sumatra: Host North Sumatra joined the gold medal winning clubs at the National Rowing Championships after three days of competition on Monday.

The duo of Mintauli and Tiori gave the host team its first gold in the 500m kayak women's pairs, beating Irian Jaya's Mery/Moning and Southeast Sulawesi's Atimin/Sabarsyah, who finished second and third respectively.

Rowing powerhouse Southeast Sulawesi made amends for the loss with three golds in the 500m kayak men's singles through Sayadin, 500m kayak men's pairs through Laode Hadi/Lapada and the 500m kayak men's fours.

Another giant, Central Kalimantan, took away two golds in the rowing competition's men's singles and men's pairs. --JP
