Noodle factory pollution

From Kompas

On behalf of residents of Taman Manggis Permai housing complex in Depok, south of Jakarta, we would like to express our aversion concerning the dumping of toxic chemical elements into a nearby river by a noodle factory, PT IJ, and a chemical factory PT N located on kilometer 35 in Bogor.

We residents of RT07 and RW 20 neighborhood community of Sukamaju sub-district in Sukmajaya, have been subjected to foul odors from morning till night. We understand that continuous exposure of such dangerous chemicals can cause breathing difficulties.

Our predicament has worsened now that the dry season has arrived as the odor has become much stronger.

The color of the water in the river changes from milky white in the morning to blackish at night or occasionally red.

Members of the local administration and members of the provincial House of Representatives have visited the factories but there has been no change so far in terms of the chemical dumping.

We have also submitted a written complaint to the Bapedal (Environment Impact Management Agency) but to no avail.
