Nonvoters throw karaoke party

SURABAYA: Students here seem to have unlimited ways of demonstrating their opposition to yesterday's general election.

As people queued and perspired at polling stations, about 100 members of the Golput Students Movement fished in the Rolak Ketintang river to attract attention near a major road.

Golput (White group) refers to people protesting the five- yearly election by not voting or spoiling their ballot papers.

Elsewhere, about 50 Golput activists at the Surabaya State Institute of Islamic Studies threw a Karaoke party and played football.

"The election is a mere political joke," said a poster they had erected on a roadside. (nur/pan)
