No tips for councillors

TANGERANG: Tangerang Mayor Wahidin Halim said on Wednesday that his administration was not giving uang kadeudeuh (Sundanese term for a tip) to the municipality's 43 councillors, due to complete their tenure soon.

"We aren't allocating funds from our annual budget and there will be no uang kadeudeuh for outgoing councillors," he said.

The administration usually gives councillors a "tip" for their service at the end of their five-year tenure.

Councillor Doni Astoto of the Madani faction said that councillors expected to receive a "tip" from the administration but could do nothing if the administration decided not to pay one.

"We expected the money, but what can we do?" he commented. -- JP
