No second term for mayor
SURABAYA: East Java Governor Imam Utomo has virtually killed any chances for Surabaya Mayor Sunarto Sumoprawiro to be reelected for a second term in office after his current one ends in July.
"As Indonesia's second largest city, Surabaya needs a more creative, more capable and more intelligent leader. He must also have a proven good governance record," Imam said, reported Antara on Thursday.
Several candidates have been mentioned as candidates to succeed Sunarto, the news agency said, citing among them Muchayat of the East Java trade and commerce office, Col. Bambang Setiawan of the East Java Military Command and Col. Pranghadi of the Armed Forces Headquarters in Jakarta. (01)
