No rhinos in Gedung Sate

BANDUNG, West Java: A bronze statue of the one-horned rhinoceros (rhinoceros sondaicus) which has become a feature of the Gedung Sate here was removed on Friday to its new home in Serang, West Java.

The removal is due to Saturday's scheduled inauguration of the new Banten governor.

The House of Representatives recently approved the formation of Banten province.

The new province will comprise the mayoralty of Cilegon and regencies of Lebak, Serang, Tangerang and Pandeglang, all of which were previously part of West Java.

The one-horned rhinoceros is due to be designated as mascot of the new province, and thus Banten officials want the famed bronze statue to be placed in Serang which is expected to be the provincial capital.

The statue was completed and placed in Gedung Sate, office of the West Java Governor, in 1994.(25/lup)
