No records broken at close of Athletics Grand Prix meet

JAKARTA (JP): The first Track and Field Grand Prix and
National Junior Championships saw poor performances by national
athletes, both seniors and juniors. As of the event's close on
Saturday, no national records had been broken during the four-day
meet.

On the final day, only two results met the qualifying times
for the 2001 Kuala Lumpur Southeast Asian (SEA) Games training
program.

In the women's 100 meter dash, Asih Hernawati managed to clock
12.19 seconds, 0.11 seconds faster than the limit B time of
12.30.

Junior Olivia Sadi also managed to meet the qualifying time in
the 800m after running 2:12.83, surpassing the limit B time of
2:13.00.

Antara reported that so far 15 athletes had qualified for
participation in the SEA Games training.

They are Nia Meilani and Yurita Ariani (women's hammer throw);
Novian Suhendra (men's 400m); Olivia Sadi and Rini Budiarti
(women's 1500m); Darwati (women's 10,000m walk); Ferry Junaedi
and Gede Karang Asem (men's 5,000m); Junaidi, Sugeng Jatmiko and
Wisnu Nugroho (men's triple jump); Ketut Mudiani and Velomina
Basikbasik (women's javelin throw); Supriati Sutono (women's
5,000m); and Asih Hernawati (women's 100m).

Two juniors who managed to qualify for the training were
Roseherlinda in the women's hammer throw and Olivia Sadi in the
women's 800m.

In the junior championships, Central Java topped the medal
standing by collecting 11 golds, seven silvers and four bronzes.
West Nusa Tenggara was second with nine golds, four silvers and
six bronzes followed by East Java with five golds, six silvers
and four bronzes.

Central Java added three golds on the final day. The first was
contributed by women's 100m runner Hermahayu who clocked 12.46 to
finish first. Other golds were picked up by men's shotputter
Adejari Choirul after throwing 13.22 meters and women's long
jumper Kristiyaningrum who jumped 5.23 meters.

West Nusa Tenggara also collected three more golds in the
men's 100m and 4x400 men's and women's relay teams.

Quraish, running in the 100m, clocked 10.79 seconds to grab
the gold. The men's relay team of Israfil, Imran, Kusman and
Akhrin produced 3:23.64 while the women's relay team of Renayani,
Eka Sulastri, Kadek Wati and Mariyati clocked 4:04.60. (yan)
