'No porno VCDs please'

BANJARMASIN, South Kalimantan: Owners of video compact disc (VCD) rental stores and movie theaters here have been urged not to lease or screen pornographic films to their customers.

In a meeting with local businesspeople from across the province Saturday, Governor Gusti Hasan Aman reminded them that such films could provoke "sexual crimes, adultery and sexual harassment".

The governor also instructed related authorities to clamp down on establishments leasing or screening such films.

"I hope this orientation program will be fruitful for establishing a good system which can prevent the distribution of illegal VCDs in this region," he said, Antara reported.

Eighty rental store owners and 10 theater owners attended the meeting. (aan)
