No need to debate start of Ramadhan

YOGYAKARTA: Muhammadiyah is calling on all Muslims in the country to refrain from debates over the start of the fasting month Ramadhan.

The organization's secretary Dasron Hamid said on Thursday that Muhammadiyah would invite ulemas and astronomers to find out the best formula to conclude the beginning of Ramadhan.

"We should be ashamed of the current methods used, the ru'yat or hisab, which creates confusion among people because of the different start and finish of Ramadhan," he said.

He did not yet disclose the first day of Ramadhan, saying that scientists still had carry out their assessments.-Antara
