No more funds for election, KPU says

JAKARTA: The Ministry of Finance said on Thursday that it was unlikely it would disburse the additional Rp 418 billion requested by the General Elections Commission (KPU), which the KPU requires to organize the election runoff on Sept. 20.

The ministry's director general for budget Ahmad Rochjadi said the government was short of funds for the election.

The KPU earlier told the House of Representatives' Commission II on domestic affairs it would need an additional Rp 418 billion to organize the runoff. So far, the House has agreed to endorse Rp 10 billion for logistical requirements. -- Antara
