Nine swimmers to train in Brisbane

JAKARTA (JP): Nine national swimmers being groomed for the 20th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Brunei Darussalam in August will train in Brisbane, Australia, for five weeks beginning on June 4.

Secretary-general of the Indonesian Swimming Association Patuan Simatupang said five swimmers from Wisnu Wardana and twin brothers Felix and Albert Sutanto on the men's side, and Elsa Manora Nasution and Rita Mariani on the women's side would take part in the Australian training.

Four junior swimmers -- Eko, Akbar Nasution, Ati Yuliani and Siripiya Sutanto -- will also train in Brisbane.

Patuan said during a meeting with the chairman of the National Sports Council, Wismoyo Arismunandar, on Monday that Rita, who is currently training in the United States, would fly directly to Brisbane.

He also said two others national swimmers, Catherine Surya and Stephen Chandra, were currently training in Brisbane. Both swimmers will join the national team before competing in the SEA Games. (ivy)
