Nine killed in bus crash
JAKARTA (JP): At least nine people died and eight were seriously injured Saturday when an Sahabat intercity bus crashed head on with a minibus in Majalengka, West Java.
Three infants were among the dead. Six people received minor injuries.
The buses crashed at about 4:30 p.m. in Garawangi village, Sumber Jaya, Antara reported.
The speeding Sahabat bus, with five passengers, came around a sharp bend and crashed head on with the minibus, carrying 22 passengers, coming from Cirebon.
The injured were rushed to the Cideres hospital in Majalengka.
Only four of the dead have been identified. Among them were two junior high school students from SMP Sumber Jaya in Majalengka: Edi Sumaedi, 14, and Nurhadi, 14, died in their scout uniforms. They lived in Prapatan village, Raja Galuh district.
The Sahabat bus driver, Wandi, 32, sustained minor injuries. (anr)
