Nine convicted for robbery

BOGOR (JP): The Bogor District Court sentenced nine students from Siliwangi High School in Bogor on Monday to two-and-a-half months imprisonment each for robbing and assaulting four junior high school pupils last November.

Presiding Judge Sri Kasiyani said in her verdict that on Nov. 23 the nine students, named Sudrajat, Davi, Pramana, Aldi, Ari, Fauzan, Budi, Jeri and Andri gathered on the side of Jl. Baru Kedung Badak at around 5 p.m.

"The students, aged between 16 years and 17 years, were waiting for empty pickup trucks to bring them home from school.

"Then a Kijang pickup driven by Nurhamzah passed by at a low speed and the students jumped in for a free ride," Sri Kasiyani told the hearing.

"There were already four junior high school students in the truck, namely Bima, Dimas, Gautama and Vitra," she said.

The nine high school students were entranced by the possessions which the four children had with them, such as wristwatches, shoes, bags and a guitar.

"They threatened the four with a machete, hit the victims and then snatched their belongings," Kasiyani said.

The driver witnessed the crime and drove to a nearby security post at the Kedung Badak Baru housing complex.

Local security guards and residents then ran after the nine teenagers and caught five of them. "Police later picked the other four at the school," the judge said.

"Such action is a direct violation of article 365 of the Criminal Code for thievery with violence," Kasiyani said.(24/edt)
