Night spots refuse to reopen

TANGERANG (JP): Night spot owners are reluctant to rebuild their businesses after the May 1998 riot which destroyed many of the buildings, a hotel executive said here on Wednesday.

"Based on our experience, we'll have to think twice before building singing halls and discotheques," an executive of Istana Nelayan Hotel, Peter Djasman, told reporters.

He said the three-star hotel was vandalized and burned during the riot, which destroyed the hotel's singing hall and discotheque.

"I am still traumatized (by the riot)," Djasman said adding that the hotel would be rebuilt without its singing hall and discotheque.

He also said that his office would rebuild its restaurant which was also burned down during the riot but would move its location from Jl. Gatot Subroto to the Green Garden housing complex on Jl. M.H. Thamrin. (41/jaw)
