Night buses

According to a report in a newspaper the state-owned transportation company is to operate night buses from 10:00 p.m. to morning in Jakarta. The decision was made on consideration that the society badly needs night transportation.

As a Jakarta citizen who has no private car and has a lot to do, I fully support the government's plan to operate night buses. Since 49 years have elapsed, the problem of transportation should be attentively addressed, because it concerns the majority of the population.

In this relation I would like to give the following comments.

* A special survey should be conducted to determine the number of buses and the size of the society's demand.

* The bus fares should be reasonable.

* Security measures should be carefully considered for the sake of the passengers' safety.

* Last but not least, the company should ensure that passengers can travel conveniently and comfortably, by providing proper lighting, window curtain etc.
