Nigerians sell heroine from jail

JAKARTA: Two Nigerians detained in Salemba Penitentiary, Central Jakarta, have been accused of dealing 252 grams of heroin, police said on Thursday.

The crime was uncovered when narcotics detectives arranged a transaction with a suspected dealer identified as 23-year-old Dewi Purwanti Sari.

The police arrested Dewi after she handed over a brown envelope containing heroin worth about Rp 151 million (US$16,700) in a hotel room in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta.

Dewi told the police that she got the drugs from her Nigerian boyfriend John Owuh, who was imprisoned for a drug-related crime. The police later found out that Owuh worked with another detained Nigerian Chidi Okemere.--JP
