Nigerian controls drug trade

JAKARTA: Police have managed to uncover an international drug trafficking network controlled by Nigerian inmate, Nwaolisa Hansen Anthony, who is serving a life sentence at Cipinang Penitentiary in East Jakarta.

Chief of the drug abuse division of the Jakarta Police Detectives, Carlo Brix Tewu said on Monday that Anthony controlled the drug network using his cellular phone to contact his men, even in Pakistan.

Each week, Carlo said, Anthony's men would smuggle between four kilograms and five kilograms of heroin into the country through three or four couriers who swallowed the packages of heroin to thwart security checks at the airport.

According to Carlo, the heroin was smuggled into Jakarta via Polonia Airport in the North Sumatra capital of Medan, and the Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali.

Police have arrested six members of the network in Jakarta: Nengsih, Fanny Cynthia alias Maya, Triyatmi alias Tri, George Obinya alias Andy, Chukwuka Sunday Thomas alias Mature alias Macho. --JP
