Niger, not Nigeria

As I was listening to the TVRI program "Dunia Dalam Berita" (World in the News) a few days ago, they reported during the sports about the Paris-Dakar Race. The reporter said that the Paris-Dakar Race was going to be stopped because some tribes in Nigeria refused to allow the race to go through their country. They were opposing the central government in Niamey.

In my opinion, the Paris-Dakar Race did not take the route through Nigeria because Nigeria is not a part of the Sahara Desert where the race took place. The reporter meant Niger, a state which is situated north of Nigeria, with its capital in Niamey.

We hope that TVRI reporters will be more careful in presenting reports. People are sometimes confused in distinguishing Austria and Australia, Slovakia and Slovenia, Niger and Nigeria and even Indonesia and Indochina.
