NGOs invited to meet at UN

JAKARTA: Indonesian non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are
invited to take part in the 48th annual NGO meeting organized by
the United Nations in New York next month.

The United Nations Information Center (UNIC) said yesterday
that the three-day conference from Sept. 18 to 20 will discuss
the increasing role of civil society in the formulation and
implementation of programs agreed upon in major UN conferences
and summits.

By 'civil society' the UN refers to NGOs, the media, the
business community, local authorities, academics and service and
trade associations.

Participants are to bear the expenses and obtain the
registration forms at the UNIC office here until Aug. 30. (anr)
